Let us answer any questions you might have before booking your holiday with us.

Your Booking

Our Terms & Conditions

Before making your booking, please familiarise yourself with our Terms and conditions.

Booking Extras

Our experiences are available to resident guests only. We do need notice to organise experiences on the estate, normally a minimum of one week.
You can add extras to your booking in our guest portal.

Payments

A 50% deposit is required to make your booking, with the balance due two weeks in advance of your holiday.
Payments can be made via our secure payment gateway, accessed via our guest portal.

Cancellations & Insurance

We do not offer refunds in case of cancellation, but we do offer you the opportunity to purchase refund protection insurance up to two weeks before your holiday. This can be added via our guest portal.

Licensing

We are a licensed short-term letting business, regulated by Moray Council.

Gardens

Accessing the Gardens

Mayen Estate is a private home and our gardens and grounds are strictly open to resident guests only.
We have a team of gardeners who are dedicated to making our gardens and grounds beautiful, productive and a haven for insects and wildlife. Opening times are Monday to Saturday, 8.30am until 4.30pm.

The walled gardens are closed to guests on Sundays and from November to February.

Weddings & Events

Our gardens and glasshouses are not available to rent for events, gatherings or weddings, but we are able to recommend some beautiful local venues which are.

Practical Information

Checking in

We take pleasure in personally warmly welcoming each guest that comes to stay at Mayen Estate.
Check-in is between 4pm and 6pm. We are unable to accommodate earlier or later check-ins and we do not offer “self check-in”.
We don’t offer stays beginning on Thursdays and Sundays, as these are our days off.

We share details on how to find us and check-in over email the day before your arrival.

Checking out

Check-out is any time before 10am on the day of your departure.

What to pack

Don’t forget to pack a waterproof jacket and wellington boots! You must bring these things if you are taking part in any of our experiences, such as our shooting or fishing activities or you might not be able to participate.

It’s also a great idea to pack layers of clothing to keep you warm, slippers for inside (as our historic properties do have uneven floors), and flip-flops for walking to the hot tub!

Groceries

We recommend that you bring your essential groceries with you when you arrive at Mayen Estate. We do offer some provisions and seasonal vegetables in our on-site shoppe, which you can order in advance here.

The nearest shop is a small coop in the village of Aberchirder, 6 miles away.

The nearest large supermarkets are in the town of Huntly, which you will drive through on your way to find us.

Amenities

Hot Tubs

Each of our properties has its own private eco spa. The tubs are all wood burning, using our homegrown sustainably sourced fuel.
The spas are completely chemical-free and are filled with fresh filtered spring water. They do not have jets. We empty, clean, and refill the tubs between guests.
The Pheasantry is the only property with a hot tub that can be safely used by supervised children under 12.

Pizza Ovens

There are gas Ooni pizza ovens at Butlers Cottage, The Pheasantry, MidPark A-frame and The Guardhouse. Pizza dough kits are available from our Shoppe.

BBQs & Charcoal

There are charcoal top of the range kamado-style BBQs at Butlers Cottage, The Pheasantry, MidPark A-frame and The Guardhouse. We sell BBQ charcoal in our Shoppe.

Cots & High Chairs

We can provide cots and high chairs for infants under two in any of our family friendly cottages. Please select this option when booking or you can make an amendment to an existing booking in our guest portal.

Please note that MidPark and The Guardhouse are adults only and are not suitable for infants or children.

Dogs

Which properties accept dogs?

We love dogs! Our dog friendly properties are Butlers Cottage (up to 1 medium), MidPark A-frame (up to 1 small) and Bailies Cottage (up to 2 large). Please note that Bailies Cottage does not have a fenced garden.

We do not allow cats or any other pets and we do not ever accept pets in The Pheasantry or The Guardhouse.

Do you have dog rules?

Yes. We are a working estate and we work hard creating a home for wildlife.

Dogs must be impeccably behaved around wildlife, livestock and other dogs. Livestock worrying is an offence and will be treated as such. Dogs are not allowed to be left unattended in or around the property at any time.

We do not accept puppies under 1 year of age.

Dog amenities

Dogs get muddy! We have a heated dog shower in our kennels which we invite all four-legged guests to use.
